Where Creative Passions Become Life-Changing Journeys
The Art of Handmade Summit starts a week from Tuesday, and I want to tell you why we built this one the way we did.
We keep hearing the same sentence from this community in different words: I just want to make something with my hands again. Not scroll past someone else's project, not save it for later, but actually sit down and make the thing.
So that's what the three days are. Thirty-three workshops taught live by makers who do this for a living, and it's free to attend. Registration is open now, and everything you need to know is below.

Three days, and each one has its own focus. Day 2 is built entirely around fiber and fabric, with sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, and macrame taught by the makers who do this for a living. You watch them work through it in real time, and if you miss a session, every workshop stays open for 24 hours after it goes live.
Thirty-three workshops in three days is a lot, and most people can't sit through all of it live. If you want to get a feel for the fiber and fabric side before the summit starts, this is where I'd begin. "Fiber arts" sounds like it means knitting and crochet and stops there, but it's the whole category of turning thread, cord, and fabric into something with your hands, and some of the easiest entry points need almost nothing to start.
Four ways in, easiest to most advanced
1. Macrame keychains. One knot, a length of cord, twenty minutes. The lowest-pressure fiber craft there is.
2. Eco printing. Press real leaves and flowers onto fabric with heat. No dye required — the plant does the design work.
3. Thread sculpture. Embroider onto a stabilizer that dissolves in water, and what's left is a freestanding bowl made of lace-like thread.
4. Machine knitting. A mechanical knitting machine speeds up the process. You still control the yarn, tension, and shaping by hand.
